Sister M. Flavia Morris, IHM

July 20, 1854 – February 6, 1933

Sister M. Flavia Morris, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, February 6, 1933, at St. John’s Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on July 20, 1854 in Carbondale, PA, and given the name Catherine. She was the daughter of the late John and Catherine Taugher Morris. The family later moved to Olyphant, PA. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1873, received the religious habit on April 13, 1874, and made profession of her vows on April 25, 1876.

Sister Flavia served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Patrick Elementary School in White Haven, PA; St.Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archabld, PA; and St. John the Evangelist School in Scranton, PA.

Sister served as principal at the following schools: Our Lady of Mount Carmel School in Altoona, PA; St. David Elementary School in Williamsport, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Hollidaysburg, PA; and St. John Elementary School in Susquehanna Depot, PA.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick and Bernard F., and three sisters, Mary Best, Sabina Hyland and Ellen Coleman.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews in Olyphant and Scranton, PA.

The funeral will be Wednesday, February 8, at 9:30 a.m. with a solemn requiem mass at St. John the Evangelist Church, South Scranton. Interment will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA.
