Sister M. Felix Merrick, IHM

March 1, 1885 – August 26, 1951

Sister M. Felix Merrick, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, August 26, 1951, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on February 21, 1885 in Inkerman, PA, and given the name Genevieve (Jennie) Loretta. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary McNulty Merrick. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1908, received the religious habit on July 16, 1908, and made profession of her vows on October 15, 1910.

Sister Felix served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Cecelia Elementary School in Exeter, PA; Holy Elementary Rosary School in Scranton, PA; and St. Joseph Elementary School in Danville, PA.

Sister served as principal at the following schools: St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA; and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Elementary School in Asbury Park, NJ. She served as superior at St. John’s Home in Cresson, PA.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Patrick and Joseph, and a sister, Mary Merrick.

She is survived by two sisters, Catherine (Katie) Merrick and Anna Keightly, both of Inkerman, PA, and two nieces.

The funeral will be Wednesday, August 29, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Avoca, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
