Sister M. Evelyn Hart, IHM

Sister M. Evelyn Hart, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, January 22, 1946, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.
She was born on November 4, 1905 in Carbondale, PA, and given the name Ruth Elizabeth. She was the daughter of Mary McCann Hart and the late Michael J. Hart. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1922, received the religious habit on December 28, 1922, and made profession of her vows on December 29, 1924.
Sister Evelyn served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; St. John the Evangelist High School in Scranton, PA; St. Basil High School in Dushore, PA; St. John the Evangelist High School in Pittston, PA; and St. Mary of the Mount High School in Pitsburgh, PA.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Vincent.
In addition to her mother, Mary Hart of New York City, NY, she is also survived by a sister, Katherine McAuliffe of Carbondale, PA, and three brothers, Major Eugene Hart (USAF) of Atlanta, GA, and Richard Hart and Basil Hart, both of New York.
The funeral will be Thursday, January 24, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Rose’s Church in Carbondale, followed by interment at Our Mother of Sorrows Cemetery in Greenfield Township, PA.
