Sister M. Elizaretta McGee, IHM

Sister M. Elizaretta McGee, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Wednesday, October 7, 1987, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born November 30, 1902 in Murray, PA, and given the name Marguerite. She was daughter of the late William and Elizabeth O’Neill McGee. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1924, received the religious habit on December 29, 1924, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1926.

Sister Elizaretta taught intermediate and junior high grades at the following schools: St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; Sacred Heart of Mary Elementary School in Jermyn, PA; St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore, PA; St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA; Epiphay Elementary School in Sayre, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo, PA; and St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, NY. She also taught at schools located in Susquehanna, PA; and Manhasset and Forest Hills, NY.

From 1972 until the time of her death, Sister Elizaretta served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister, two brothers, Gerald William and Eugene Francis, and her step-mother, Mary Elizabeth Touschner McGee.

She is survived by three sisters, Agnes McGee of Dushore, PA, Teresa Georgetti of Plains, PA, and Josephine Husted of Blossburg, PA; two brothers, James and William, both of Ithaca, NY; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday, October 10, at 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Friday afternoon or evening.
