Sister M. Elizaretta McGee, IHM

November 30, 1902 – October 7, 1987

Sister M. Elizaretta McGee, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Wednesday, October 7, 1987 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born November 30, 1902 in Murray, Pennsylvania, and given the name Marguerite. She was daughter of the late William and Elizabeth O’Neil McGee, and the step-daughter of the late Mary Elizabeth Touschner McGee. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1924, received the religious habit on December 29, 1924, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1926.

Sister Elizaretta taught intermediate and junior high grades at the following schools: St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; Sacred Heart of Mary Elementary School in Jermyn, PA; St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Dunmore, PA; St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA; Epiphay Elementary School in Sayre, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, NY; and at schools located in Susquehanna, PA, Manhasset and Forest Hills, NY.

From 1972 until the time of her death, Sister Elizaretta served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, and an infant sister.

She is survived by three sisters, Agnes McGee of Dushore, PA, Teresa Georgetti of Plains, PA, and Josephine Husted of Blossburg, PA; two brothers, James and William, both of Ithaca, New York; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday, October 10 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in the Marian Convent chapel. Interment will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Friday afternoon or evening.
