Sister M. Dorothy McLane, IHM

February 6, 1866 – April 7, 1936

Sister M. Dorothy McLane, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, April 7, 1936, at St. John’s Orphan Home for Boys in Cresson, PA.

She was born on February 6, 1866 in Dunmore, PA, and given the name Catharine (Kate). She was the daughter of the late Martin and Mary Mahon McLane. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 7, 1887, received the religious habit on August 2, 1887, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1889.

Sister Dorothy served as an art teacher at the following schools: St. Cecelia Academy in Scranton, PA; Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA; Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA; and St. Mary-John School in Cresson, PA. She was regarded as one of the most brilliant teachers in the order.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Martin Jr., and two sisters, Mary A. and Dora McLane.

She is survived by several cousins, including Mrs. W. F. Shean, Desmond Leonard, and Elizabeth McLane, all of Scranton, PA.

The funeral will be Saturday, April 11, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church in Moscow, PA, followed by interment in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.

Note: Mother’s first name could also have been Maria.
