Sister M. Donald Murray, IHM

Sister M. Donald Murray, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, August 25, 1977, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on April 12, 1884 in Dunmore, PA, and given the name Agnes (Aggie). She was the daughter of the late Michael John and Bridget Carney Murray. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 19, 1904, received the religious habit on August 2, 1904, and made profession of her vows on July 26, 1906.
Sister Donald served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Hollidaysburg, PA; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in White Haven, PA; St. Alphonsus Elementary School in New York City, NY; St. Raymond Elementary School in Lynbrook, NY; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA; and St. Matthew Elementary School in East Stroudsburg, PA.
Sister also served as the superior at St. Joseph’s Hospital Convent in Carbondale, PA, from 1925 to 1926; St. Raymond’s Convent in Lynbrook, NY; St. Mary’s Convent in Avoca, PA; and St. Thomas’ Convent in Archbald, PA.
From 1966 until the time of her death, Sister Donald served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She was preceded in death by eight sisters, Lydia Murray, Annie (infant) Murray, Bridget McDade, Nellie Murray, Winifred Loretta Dooley, Kathryn Larkin, Elizabeth Mongan, and Margaret Simrell; five brothers, Peter, Michael Jr., Patrick, John (infant), and Anthony J.; and her step-mother, Bridget McAndrew Murray.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Margaret McDonald of Dunmore, PA.
The funeral will be Saturday, August 27, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, with interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Friday afternoon or evening.
