Sister M. deChantal McHugh, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, April 22, 1909, at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Scranton, PA.
She was born on September 3, 1875 in Dunmore, PA, and given the name Loretta. She was the daughter of the late John Joseph and Sydney O’Malley McHugh. She entered the IHM Congregation on June 22, 1896, received the religious habit on February 2, 1897, and made profession of her vows on July 15, 1899.
Sister deChantal served as a teacher at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary in Scranton, PA.
She is survived by three sisters, Catherine O’Brien and Agnes White, both of Buffalo, NY, and Elizabeth Barrett, of Scranton, PA; two brothers, Austin Gerald and John Joseph Jr, both of Dunmore, PA; nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held at in the chapel at Mount Saint Mary’s Seminary, Scranton, followed by interment at the Marywood College Cemetery, on the grounds of Marywood College in Scranton, PA.
Note: Her mother also went by the first name Cecilia.
