Sister M. Clara McNulty, IHM

Sister M. Clara McNulty, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, June 30, 1953, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on September 17, 1874 in Olyphant, PA, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Mary McHale McNulty. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1897, received the religious habit on July 24, 1897, and made profession of her vows on July 15, 1899.

Sister Clara served as a teacher at the following schools: St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA; Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo, PA; St. Cecilia Elementary in Exeter, PA; and St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA, from 1941 to 1953.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Anthony, Michael, James and Thomas.

She is survived by two sisters, Loretta Fallon of Throop, PA, and Lucy of Olyphant, PA; a brother, William of Olyphant, PA; and several nieces and nephews, including Reverend Patrick H. McCormick, pastor of St. David’s Church in Scranton, PA, and Revered John Regan, at St. Aloysius Church in Ralson, PA.

The funeral will be on Thursday, July 2, with mass at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Archbald, PA. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call at St. Thomas Convent, Archbald, on Wednesday after 7:00 pm.

“Sister Mary Clara Claimed by Death

A member of the Sisters Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary order for 56 years, Sister Mary Clara, died this morning shortly before 7 in St. Joseph’s Hospital, Carbondale, where she had been a patient since March 26.

Sister Mary Clara was injured some time ago in a fall at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Archbald. For the past 12 years she has taught at St. Thomas Parochial School, Archbald.

Sister Mary Clara, the former Mary McNulty was the daughter of the late Patriuck and Mary McHale McNulty of Olyphant.

Entering the novitiate in St. Rose Convent, Carbondale, in 1897, she was admitted to religious profession in 1899. During her years of religious service she taught at the following parochial schools: St. John’s, Pittston; Holy Rosary, this city; St. Joseph’s, Renovo; St. Cecilia’s, Wyoming (sic); and St. Thomas Aquinas, Archbald.

Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. James Fallon, Throop, and Miss Lucy McNulty, Olyphant; a brother, William A. McNulty, Olyphant; several nieces and nephews, and Rev. Patrick H. McCormick, pastor of St. David’s Church, this city, and Rev. John Regan, St. Aloysius Church, Ralston, Lycoming County.

The funeral will be conducted Thursday from St. Thomas Convent, Archbald, with mass at 10 A.M. in St. Thomas Church. Interment will be in St. Catherine’s Cemtery, Moscow. Friends may call tonight after 7.”
