Sister M. Chrysostom Roberts, IHM

Sister M. Chrysostom Roberts, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Sunday, March 19, 1989, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on August 24, 1914 in Utica, NY, and given the name Marguerite. She was the daughter of the late John B. and Catherine G. Walsh Roberts. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1940, received the religious habit on May 8, 1941, and made profession of her vows on May 10, 1943.
Sister Chrysostom began her teaching career as a high school business teacher in Marywood Seminary, Scranton, PA, where she taught for many years. At the same time, she served as assistant to the secretary-general of the IHM Congregation.
Sister also served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Mark’s High School in Wilmington, DE; St. Alphonsus High School in New York, NY; and Cathedral High School in New York, NY.
Sister Chrysostom later served on the support staff of the IHM Communications Office at the IHM Center in Scranton, PA, from 1980 to 1986.
From 1986 until the time of her death, Sister Chrysostom was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She was preceded in death by two aunts in community, Sister M. Eulalia Walsh, IHM and Sister M. Matthias Walsh, IHM, and cousin, Sister M. Theophanie Walsh, IHM.
The funeral will be Wednesday, March 22, 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Tuesday afternoon or evening.
