Sister M. Charisse Hayes, IHM

Sister M. Charisse Hayes, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, July 1, 1985, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on January 19, 1907 in Mansfield, WA, and given the name Lena Mary. She was the daughter of the late James P. and Mary Jane Spiva Hayes. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 6, 1927, received the religious habit on August 15, 1927, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1929.
Sister Charisse served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Mary of the Mount Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA; St. Paul High School in Scranton, PA; IHM Academy in Coeur d’Alene, ID; St. Lawrence Academy in Portland, OR; and Central Catholic High School in Portland, OR.
Sister also served as librarian at the IHM Academy in Coeur d’Alene, ID; curriculum librarian at Marywood College in Scranton, PA; and support staff member at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Lawrence Anthony (infant), Frank George, James Griswold (toddler), Patrick John, and James Louis.
She is survived by two brothers, Joseph Michael of Everett, WA, and Terrence (Terry) E. of Bridgeport, WA, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday, July 3 at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the Marian Convent.
