Sister M. Cecilian Hammer, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, July 2, 1943, in Pittsburgh, PA, after being struck by a streetcar.
She was born on September 1, 1904 in Pittsburgh, PA, and given the name Anna Marie. She was the daughter of Charles Francis and Emma Brown Hammer. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1921, received the religious habit on December 29, 1921, and made profession of her vows on December 27, 1923.
Sister Cecilian served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Michael’s Industrial School for Boys in Hoban Heights, PA; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Altoona, PA; and Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Francis Charles.
She is survived by a sister, Aline Cecilia Predmore of Pittsburgh, PA; two brothers, Regis Charles and Richard Francis, both of Pittsburgh, PA; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday, July 7 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church, Moscow, PA, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow. Friends may call on Tuesday after 2:00 p.m. at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.
