Sister M. Camilla Sweeney, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, May 9, 1941, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.
She was born on April 7, 1868, in Choconut Valley, PA, and given the name Winifred. She was the daughter of the late Edward and Anna (Hannah) Marie Murphy Sweeney. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 9, 1889, received the religious habit on April 8, 1890, and made profession of her vows on May 24, 1892.
Sister Camilla served as a teacher at St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA, and Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA.
Sister served as principal and superior at St. Basil School in Dushore, PA.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Charles, John, Patrick and Daniel, and three sisters, Ellen McInerney, Mary Tierney and Anna McInerney.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday, May 12, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church in Moscow. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA.
