Sister M. Bertha Grady, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Tuesday, March 16, 1993, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA, after a lengthy illness.

She was born on May 22, 1901, in Scranton, PA, and given the name Agnes. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Ann Miler Grady, and the step-daughter of John Regan. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1918, received the religious habit on August 2, 1918, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1920.

Sister Bertha taught primary and intermediate grades at the following schools: St. Charles Borromeo Elementary School in Sugar Notch, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Bellefonte, PA; All Saints Elementary School in Masontown, PA; St. Matthew Elementary School in East Stroudsburg, PA; and Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1959 to 1973. She also taught at elementary schools located in Cresson, PA, and New Bern, NC.

From 1973 until the time of her death, Sister Bertha served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Philip J.; three sisters, Sabina O’Connor and Kathryn and Nora Grady; and a half-sister, Margaret Regan.

She is survived by a nephew, Philip Grady, Jr., of Endwell, NY, and a half-sister, Veronica Regan, who resides at Holy Family Residence in Scranton, PA.

The funeral will be Thursday, March 18 at 7:00 p.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent. Interment will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Thursday between 2:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.
