Sister M. Berchmans Gallagher, IHM

June 29, 1862 – December 16, 1941

Sister M. Berchmans Gallagher, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, December 16, 1941.

She was born on June 29, 1862 in White Haven, Pennsylvania, and given the name Maria. She was the daughter of the late Martin and Bridget McDonald Gallagher. She entered the IHM Congregation on June 3, 1880, received the religious habit on December 21, 1880, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1882.

Sister Berchmans served enjoyed her years teaching children at our IHM mission schools, including, St. Mary of the Mount School in Pittsburgh, PA; St. Cecilia School in Exeter, PA; and St. Patrick School in Olyphant. She also served as the first superior at St. Cecilia’s Convent in Exeter, PA.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Katherine, Alice and Margaret, and a brother, William.

Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
