Sister M. Anysia Moran, IHM

May 30, 1883 – February 27, 1950

Sister M. Anysia Moran, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, February 27, 1950 at the IHM Motherhouse in Scranton, PA.

Born on May 30, 1883 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania, and given the name Jennie, she was the daughter of the late Kieran and Bridget Fay Moran. She entered the IHM Congregation on October 2, 1901, received the religious habit on April 1, 1902, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1904.

Sister Anysia served as a teacher at St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA, and St. Patrick School in Scranton, PA.

Sister served as principal and superior at the following schools: St. Thomas School in Providence, RI; St. Monica School in Raleigh, NC; and St. Rita School in Dundalk, MD.

Sister Anysia has served the IHM Congregation as Mistress of Novices since 1932.

She is survived by a brother, Reverend Kieran, CM, PhD, DD, of St. Vincent’s Seminary in Germantown, PA; and two sisters, Mary Wiersching and Josephine Mahoney, both of Binghamton, NY.

The funeral will be on Thursday, March 2 at 9:30 a.m. in the Marywood College Chapel in Scranton, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call on March 1 at the IHM Motherhouse in Scranton.
