Sister Mary Antoinette Lannon, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, June 12, 1897, at St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA.
She was born on September 16, 1851 in Forest Lake, PA, and given the name Margaret Cecilia. She was the daughter of the late James and Catharine O’Brien Lannon. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 16, 1876, received the religious habit on February 13, 1877, and made profession of her vows on August 27, 1878.
Sister Mary Antoinette served as a teacher at St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA, and St. Paul School in Scranton, PA. She served as superior at St. Paul’s Convent and St. Patrick’s Orphanage, both located in Scranton, PA.
From 1893 until the time of her death, Sister Mary Antoinette was a prayer minister at St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA.
The funeral will be Tuesday, June 15 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Cathedral in Scranton, followed by interment at Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton, PA.
Note: As a child, she went by Cecilia.
