Sister M. Aluigi Devers, IHM

Sister M. Aluigi Devers, IHM, of the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Sunday, July 8, 1979, at the Mercy Hospital in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.
She was born on November 7, 1883 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and was the daughter of the late William and Mary Louise Charles Devers. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1905, received the religious habit on July 26, 1906, and pronounced her first vows on July 16, 1908.
Sister Aluigi served as a music teacher at the following schools: St. Jseph School in Renovo, PA; St. Cecilia School in Exeter, PA; St. Bernard Parochial School in Hastings, PA; St. Joseph School in Danville, PA; St. John the Evangelist School in Scranton, PA; St. Ann School in Scranton, PA; Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA; and schools located in Williamsport, PA. She also served as music teacher at St. Ann’s Catechetical Center in Tobyhanna, PA.
Sister served as principal at St. Joseph School in Danville, PA, and St. Bernard Parochial School in Hastings, PA.
From 1969 until the time of her death, Sister Aluigi served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She is preceded in death by four brothers, Frank, Reverend John A., C.S.C., William, and James, and three sisters, Mary Clare Devers, Cecilia O’Toole, and Hildegarde Devers.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Louise Colligan of Santa Monica, CA, four nieces, Sister M. Stella Devers, IHM, of Scranton, PA, Mrs. Hildegarde Giddings and Mrs. Alice Prisco, both of California, Mrs. Mary Colligan Scanlon of Scranton, PA, and three nephews, Joseph Devers of Scranton, PA, John Devers of Carbondale, PA, and John Colligan of Cherry Hill, NJ.
The funeral will be Tuesday, July 10, at the IHM Generalate Chapel with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery Moscow, PA. Friends may call Monday afternoon or evening at the Marian Convent.
