Sister M. Alban Griffiths, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, March 25, 1954, at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.
She was born on March 20, 1890 in Pittston, PA, and given the name of Martha C. She was the daughter of the late Isaac and Catharine Brown Griffiths. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1911, received the religious habit on December 27, 1911, and made profession of her vows on December 30, 1913.
Sister Alban served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Alphonsus School in New York, NY; St. Cecilia’s Academy in Scranton, PA; St. Cecilia School in Exeter, PA; and St. Paul School in Edgewood, RI.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, John, Albert, William and James.
She is survived by three nieces, Sister Mary Regis Griffiths, SSJ, of East Meadows, NY, and Helen Griffiths and Rita Griffiths, both of Brooklyn, NY; and a nephew, Reverend William Griffiths, SJ, of Fordham University in New York.
The funeral will be on Monday, March 29 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church in Moscow, PA, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow. Friends may call on Sunday after 2:00 p.m. at St. Agnes Place, Elmhurst.
