Sister M. Agatha McDonough, IHM

Sister M. Agatha McDonough, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, June 9, 1947, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.
She was born on October 25, 1878 in Scranton, PA and given the name Ann. She was the daughter of the late Martin and Bridget Murray McDonough. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1897, received the religious habit on July 24, 1897, and made profession of her vows on July 15, 1899.
Sister Agatha served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Patrick Elementary School in White Haven, PA; St. Dominick Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY; Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna Depot, PA; and St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA.
Sister served as principal at St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Bellefonte, PA.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, James, Thomas F., and Martin Jr., and a sister, Laura McDonough.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday, June 12, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in Pittston, PA, followed by interment at St. John the Evangelist Cemetery, Pittston.
