Sister Dolores M. Filicko, IHM

Sister Dolores M. Filicko, IHM, (formerly known as Sister M. Dolorene) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, August 18, 2025, at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton, PA.
Born on September 13, 1928, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, Sister Dolores was the daughter of the late John J. and Elizabeth A. Ligda Filicko. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1952, made temporary profession of her vows on August 3, 1955, and final profession of her vows on August 3, 1958. Sister Dolores received a Bachelor of Arts degree in business administration/English from Marywood College, and a Master of Business Administration degree from University of Notre Dame.
Sister Dolores served as a teacher in the following schools: Our Lady of Peace Elementary School in Clarks Green, PA, from 1955 to 1957; St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1957 to 1958; St. John Elementary School/Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA, from 1958 to 1961; St. Patrick High School in Olyphant, PA, from 1961 to 1967; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA, from 1967 to 1969; and St. Mark’s High School in Wilmington, DE, from 1969 to 1971.
At Marywood College/University in Scranton, PA, Sister Dolores served in the following roles: director of Regina Hall from 1971 to 1972; director of student accounts from 1971 to 1976; director of special services from 1976 to 1980; director of the physical plant from 1979 to 1982; registrar and secretary of the college from 1982 to 1997; assistant secretary of the board of trustees from 1997 to 2010; and secretary of the university from 1997 to 2010.
Sister Dolores also served as administrative assistant for Friends of the Poor in Scranton, PA, from 2011 to 2014; and on the support staff at the IHM Center in Scranton, PA, from 2014 to 2018.
From 2018 until the time of her death, Sister Dolores was a prayer minister at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary C. Troy, Rita M. Kopec, and Ann Cocciardi; and a brother, John J., Jr. Sister Dolores is survived by nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews living throughout the Lehigh Valley, Southeastern and South Central Pennsylvania. She is also survived by the members of the IHM Congregation.
The funeral will be Wednesday, August 27, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 1510 University Avenue in Dunmore, PA. Friends may call at Our Lady of Peace Residence on Wednesday, August 27, between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. A prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow Mass on Wednesday at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
