Sister Damian Marie Dlugos, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton, PA.
Born on September 6, 1930, in Milford, CT, and given the name Katherine, Sister Damian Marie was the daughter of the late John Joseph and Katherine Voitko Dlugos. She entered the IHM Congregation on November 15, 1962, made temporary profession of her vows on June 27, 1965, and final profession of her vows on August 2, 1970. Sister Damian Marie received her RN from St. Vincent’s Hospital School of Nursing in Bridgeport, CT, a Bachelor of Science degree in sociology/psychology from Marywood College, and a Master of Science degree in nursing from Hunter College.
Sister Damian Marie served as a nursing instructor at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA, from 1967 to 1975, and as director of nursing at Saint Joseph’s Center in Scranton, PA, from 1975 to 1978.
At Marywood College in Scranton, PA, Sister served as faculty member in the Nursing Department from 1977 to 1978 and from 1981 to 1988. She served as a faculty member in the Nursing Department at College Misericordia in Dallas, PA, from 1982 to 1984.
Sister Damian Marie also served as assistant director of the Family Life Bureau in Scranton, PA, from 1978 to 1981. At the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA, Sister served in the pharmacy from 1981 to 1982 and as coordinator of nursing services from 1988 to 2006. She was a member of the support staff at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton, PA, from 2006 to 2018.
From 2018 until the time of her death, Sister Damian Marie was a prayer minister at Our Lady of Peace Residence in Scranton
She was preceded in death by seven brothers, James, Edward F., John Jr., Richard, Thomas, William, and Raymond; and four sisters, Eleanor, Sister Mary Epiphany, RGS, Florence Wakeley, and Mary Agnes. Sister Damian Marie is survived by nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. She is also survived by the members of the IHM Congregation.
The funeral will be Tuesday, August 5, at 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Peace Residence, 1510 University Avenue in Dunmore, PA. Friends may call at Our Lady of Peace Residence on Tuesday, August 5, between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. A prayer service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow Mass on Tuesday at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
