Sister Mary Rose Freiman, IHM

Sister Mary Rose Freiman, IHM (formerly Sister Mary Assumpta) of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, March 28, 2004, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on September 8, 1927 in Pittsburgh, PA, and given the name Mary Rosalia. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes Kelly Freiman. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1945, made temporary profession of her vows on May 8, 1948, and final profession of her vows on August 2, 1951.
Sister Mary Rose served as a teacher at the following schools: Epiphany Elementary School in Sayre, PA, from 1948 to 1951; Marywood Seminary, Scranton, PA, from 1957 to 1959; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Bellefonte, PA; as well as at schools located in Pittsburgh, PA, Raleigh, NC, and Manhasset, NY. She also served as school librarian in Manhasset, NY.
Sister Mary Rose served as an occupational therapist at the Marian Convent, Scranton, from 1972 to 1983.
From 2000 until the time of her death, she served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in art from Marywood College, and a Master of Arts Degree in religious studies from Manhattan College.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Reverend Thomas Freiman, O. Carm., and a sister, Regina “Jean” Baker.
She is survived by three sisters, Agnes and Clare, both of Rochester Hills, MI, and Sister Patricia, RSM of Pittsburgh, PA, and a brother Martin of Sterling Heights, MI, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday, April 1 at 9:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent after 3:00 pm.
