Sister Mary Maurice Harrington, IHM

Sister Mary Maurice Harrington, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, April 13, 1902, at St. Rose’s Convent in Carbondale, PA.
She was born on March 11, 1878 in Pontypool, Wales, and given the name Margaret. She was the daughter of Maurice and Ellen Hurley Harrington. In 1885, the family came to America, and settled in Dunmore, PA. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1896, received the religious habit on July 2, 1896, and made profession of her vows on July 23, 1898.
Sister Mary Maurice was an accomplished musician, and had a beautiful singing voice. Sister served as a music and voice teacher at St. Patrick School in Olyphant, PA, and St. Joseph School in Williamsport, PA.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Aloysius.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by three brothers, Stephen, Michael and Thomas, two sisters, Catherine (Kate) Veronica Gilligan and Ellen (Nellie), and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Wednesday, April 16 at St. Rose’s Church in Carbondale, followed by interment at St. Rose of Lima Cemetery in Carbondale.
