Sister Mary Charles Bradley, IHM

September 26, 1848 – March 7, 1933

Sister Mary Charles Bradley, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, March 7, 1933 at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Scranton, PA.

She was born on September 26, 1848 in Binghamton, NY, and given the name Ellen. She was the daughter of the late John and Margaret Murphy Bradley. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 1, 1874, received the religious habit on February 9, 1875, and made profession of her vows on February 13, 1877.

Sister Mary Charles served as mistress of novices at the opening of Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in 1902. She served as bursar of the community for several years while she resided at St. Cecilia’s academy, which at the time was the motherhouse of the order. In the early days of her religious life, she taught at St. John the Evangelist School in PIttston, PA, and at St. Cecilia Academy in Scranton, PA. Sister also served as principal at St. Joseph School in Williamsport, PA; St. John the Evangelist School in Scranton, PA; St. Rose School in Carbondale, PA; and St. Patrick School in Olyphant, PA.

The funeral will be Friday, March 10 at 9:30 a.m. in the Marywood College Chapel, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA.
