Mary Camillus Hatton, IHM

Sister Mary Camillus Hatton, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Sunday, August 11, 1929, at the IHM Academy in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.

She was born on May 31, 1865 in Kemptville, Ontario, Canada, and given the name Catherine Anastatia (Ann). She was the daughter of the late Daniel and Ellen Dunleavy Hatton. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1882, received the religious habit on March 27, 1883, and made profession of her vows on April 6, 1885.

Sister Mary Camillus enjoyed her years of teaching children in our IHM mission schools, including at Laurel Hill Academy in Susquehanna, PA, and the IHM Academy in Coeur d’Alene, ID. For the past eight years, she has been the principal at the IHM Academy in Coeur d’Alene, ID. where she also served as superior of the convent.

The funeral will be Wednesday, August 14, at 9:30 a.m. at Saint Thomas Church in Coeur d’Alene, ID, followed by interment in the parish cemetery (St. Thomas Cemetery).


“Catholic Educator Dies

Coeur d’Alene, Aug. 12 – (Special) – Sister Mary Camillus, for eight years principal of the Academy of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Sunday evening at the academy after a long illness. She had spent 44 years in educational work. Funeral services will be Wednesday morning at 9:30 at the St. Thomas Catholic Church, and burial will be in the St. Thomas Cemetery.”
