Sister Marie Madeleine Millets, IHM

Sister Marie Madeleine Millets, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, April 15, 1986, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on April 10, 1905 in Allentown, PA, and given the name Helen M. Milac. She was the daughter of the late Francis Milac and Mary Mason Milac-Millets. She entered the IHM Congregation in September of 1924, received the religious habit on December 29, 1924, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1926.
Sister Marie Madeleine served as a teacher at the following local schools: St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. John the Evangelist School in Pittston, PA, in the 1940s; St. Patrick School in Scranton, PA, from 1956 to 1963; St. Clare Elementary School in Scranton, PA; Holy Name of Mary Elementary School in Jermyn, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in Olyphant, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in White Haven, PA; and St. Leo School in Ashley, PA, from 1972 to 1974. She also taught in elementary schools at located in Maryland, New York, and Rhode Island.
From 1974 until the time of her death, Sister Marie Madeleine was as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton.
The funeral will be Thursday, April 17, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, with interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Wednesday afternoon or evening.
Note: According to our records she was baptized with the last name of Milac and entered the community under that name, but at some point it was changed to Millets. Her mother’s maiden name could have been “Majger.”
