Sister Marie Imelda Callahan, IHM

Sister Marie Imelda Callahan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, December 8, 2002 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, at the age of 94.
She was born on October 13, 1908 in Pittston, Pennsylvania, and given the name Lenore Marguerite. She was the daughter of the late Michael and Ellen Gallagher Callahan. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 14, 1926, made her temporary profession of vows on January 2, 1929, and her final profession of vows on August 2, 1932.
Sister Marie Imelda served as a teacher at Holy Rosary Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1968 to 1970. She served as a teacher and/or principal at the following schools: Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary School in Inwood, NY; St. Raymond School in East Rockaway, NY; All Saints Elementary School in Masontown, PA; St. Mary Elementary School in Patton, PA; St. Paul Elementary School in New Bern, NC; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Silver Spring, MD; as well as at schools located in Brooklyn, NY, Pittsburgh, Lock Haven, and Cresson, PA.
From 2000 until the time of her death, Sister Marie Imelda served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Marywood College, and a Master of Arts in psychology from Villanova University.
She is preceded in death by three brothers, John, James and Edward, and three sisters, Sister M. Gervase, IHM, Helen Roche and Mary Metzger.
She is survived by a niece, Lenore DeLellis of Medeira Beach, FL, and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
The funeral will be Friday, December 13 at 10:30 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Thursday after 2:00 p.m.
