Sister Marie Eucharia Ward, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, July 24, 1976, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on July 4, 1885, in New York City, NY, and given the name Mary Ann. She was the daughter of the late James and Mary Lappin Ward. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 25, 1928, received the religious habit on August 15, 1928, and made profession of her vows on August 2, 1930.
Sister Marie Eucharia served as a teacher at the following schools: St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA, from 1930 to 1931; St. Joseph Elementary School in Danville, PA, from 1931 to 1938; St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, NY, from 1938 to 1953; and St. Agnes Elementary School in Baltimore, MD, from 1953 to 1974.
From 1974 until the time of her death, Sister Marie Eucharia was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She was preceded in death by a brother, James Patrick.
She is survived by several nieces and a nephew.
The funeral will be on Tuesday, July 27, at 9:30 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel, with interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Saturday evening, and all day on Monday at the Marian Convent.
