Sister Maria Raymond Grogan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, September 30, 1995, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on May 19, 1906 in Albany, NY, and given the name Ethel Mae. She was the daughter of the late Michael J. and Elizabeth Mayer Grogan. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 19, 1925, made temporary profession of her vows on August 15, 1927, and final profession of her vows on December 8, 1930.

Sister Maria Raymond served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Ann Elementary Schoool in Nyack, NY; Nativity of Our Lord Elementary Schoool in Scranton, PA; St. Paul Elementary Schoool in New Bern, NC; Little Flower Elementary Schoool in Bethesda, MD; St. Patrick Elementary Schoool in Oneida, NY; Our Lady of Grace Elementary Schoool in Greensboro, NC; and Most Holy Rosary Elementary Schoool in Syracuse, NY.

From 1986 to the time of her death, Sister Maria Raymond served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Latin from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Welch.

She is survived by two nephews, James and Warren Welch, both of Las Vegas, NV.

The funeral will be Wednesday, October 4 with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent at 11:30 a.m., followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Tuesday, after 2:00 p.m. at the Marian Convent.
