Sister Maria Cecilia MacMillan, IHM

July 12, 1899 – September 10, 1988

Sister Maria Cecilia MacMillan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Saturday, September 10, 1988 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

She was born on July 12, 1899 in Rossland, British Columbia, Canada, and given the name Mary E. She was the daughter of the late Alexander John and Mary Jane Cameron MacMillan. She entered the IHM Congregation from Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, on October 9, 1922, received the religious habit on December 28, 1922, and made profession of her vows on December 29, 1924.

During her long and distinguished career as a music teacher, Sister Maria Cecilia served as a teacher at Marywood Seminary and Marywood College, both in Scranton, PA. An accomplished organist, she made invaluable contribu­tions to the liturgical life at Marywood and the IHM Congregation.

She is preceded in death by five brothers, Sheldon, Justin, George, Neil and Reverend Robert.

She is survived by nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday, September 13 with Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will follow at Saint Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Monday afternoon or evening.
