Sister Margaret Mary Howley, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, September 30, 1968, at the Marian Covent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on March 30, 1889 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Helen Immaculate. She was the daughter of the late John J. and Elizabeth Kelly Howley. She entered the IHM Congregation on March 25, 1910, received the religious habit on August 2, 1913, and made profession of her vows on July 6, 1915.
Sister Margaret Mary served as a home economics teacher at Marywood College in Scranton, PA, from 1915 to 1966. She also served as the home economics department chairman.
From 1966 until the time of her death, Sister Margaret Mary served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She earned a Bachelor’s degree in home economics from Marywood College.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Michael, and two sisters, Loretta and Mary E.
She is survived by three sisters, Sister Mary Damian, IHM, stationed at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA, Elizabeth (Bessie) Howley and Kathleen MacDonald, both of of Scranton, PA, a niece and two nephews.
The funeral will be Thursday, October 3 at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Wednesday after 2:00 p.m. at the Marian Convent.
