Sister M. Virginia Johnson, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, November 2, 1972 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on April 26, 1887 in Pittston, Pennsylvania, and given the name Catherine Elizabeth. She was the daughter of the late James and Anna Coyne Johnson. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 2, 1911, received the religious habit on December 27, 1911, and made profession of her vows on December 29, 1913.
Sister Virginia served as a commercial teacher in the following schools: St. Patrick Elementary School in Spangler; Most Holy Rosary Elementary School in Syracuse, NY; St. Rosalia School in Pittsburgh; St. Joseph Elementary School in Renovo; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton; St. Alphonsus Schoolin New York City; Holy Rosary School in Scranton; St. Leo Elementary Schoolin Ashley; St. Patrick School in Scranton; and St. Patrick School in Olyphant.
She is survived by two sisters, Sister Agnes Marie, IHM, and Sister M. Anna Clare, IHM, nieces and nephews, and grandnephews.
Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania.
