Sister M. Veronice Hennigan, IHM

June 16, 1913 – August 23, 1985

Sister M. Veronice Hennigan, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died Friday, August 23, 1985 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania, after an illness.

Though she was born on June 16, 1913 in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the family later moved to Brooklyn, New York. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Ellen Lynn Hennigan. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1938, received the religious habit on May 8, 1939, and made profession of her vows on May 8, 1941.

Sister Veronice taught intermediate grades at St. Mary Elementary School in Manhasset, NY, and Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Elementary School in Forest Hills, NY. Sister served as a business teacher at St. Rose High School in Carbondale, PA, and at St. Patrick High School in Scranton, PA. At Holy Name of Mary Catechetical Center in Montrose, she served as a music teacher for a year.

From 1964 until the time of her death, Sister Veronice served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She is survived by two sisters, Mary H. and Margaret I., both of Rego Park, NY, a brother, Patrick J. of Pasadena, CA, nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Tuesday, August 27 with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in the Marian Convent Chapel. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Monday afternoon or evening.
