Sister M. Vera Nallin, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, December 18, 1996, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on November 10, 1913 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Eleanor. She was the daughter of the late James and Anna Donovan Nallin. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1935, made temporary profession of her vows on May 2, 1938, and final profession of her vows on August 2, 1941.

Sister Vera served as a teacher at the following schools: Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1943 to 1946; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1951 to 1952; Cathedral Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1960 to 1964; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Barnesboro, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Danville, PA; St. Bernard Elementary School in Hastings, PA; St. Thomas Elementary School in Providence, RI; and St. Matthew Elementary School in Wilmington, DE. She also taught at schools located in Pittsburgh, Lock Haven, and Williamsport, PA.

Sister also served as a catechetical instructor at St. Peter Catechetical Center in Wellsboro, PA, from 1972 to 1974; and St. Agnes Catechetical Center in Forest City, PA, from 1974 to 1977.

From 1990 until the time of her death, Sister Vera was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She received a Bachelor of Science degree in education from Marywood College.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, John J., James P. and Paul J.

She is survived by sister, Margaret Lynady of Scranton, PA; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday, December 21, at 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Friday after 2:00 p.m. at the Marian Convent.
