Sister M. Ursulina Hopkins, IHM

May 14, 1875 – January 23, 1920

Sister M. Ursulina Hopkins, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, January 23, 1920, at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Scranton, PA.

She was born on May 14, 1875 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and given the name Mary. She was the daughter of the late John and Mary Bannon Hopkins. She entered the IHM Congregation on June 20, 1896, received the religious habit on February 2, 1897, and made profession of her vows on July 15, 1899.

Sister Ursulina served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Williamsport, PA; St. Cecelia Elementary School in Exeter, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in White Haven, PA; Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Elementary School in Altoona, PA; St. Joseph Elementary School in Danville, PA; and St. Alphonsus Elementary School in New York City, NY.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret, and a brother, Patrick.

She is survived by a three brothers, John, Peter, and Hugh, all of Wilkes-Barre, PA; and three sisters, Nora of Wilkes-Barre, Mrs. John McGlynn of Newark, NJ, and Catherine Riley of Jersey City, NJ.

The funeral will be Monday, January 27 at 9:30 a.m. in the Marywood College Chapel, Scranton, PA. Interment will follow at the Marywood College Cemetery, on the grounds of Marywood College in Scranton.
