Sister M. Theophane Walsh, IHM

Sister M. Theophane Walsh, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, October 8, 1956, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on November 4, 1893, in Utica, NY, and given the name Margaret C. She was the daughter of the late Luke and Honor Convey Walsh. She entered the IHM Congregation on October 2, 1911, received the religious habit on August 2, 1912, and made profession of her vows on August 3, 1914.

Sister Theophane served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Agnes School, Baltimore, MD; St. Patrick School in Oneida, NY; St. Rita School in Dundalk, MD; and IHM Academy in Coeur d’Alene, ID.

Sister also served on the support staff at St. Joseph’s Children’s and Maternity Hospital in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by four sisters, Mary Charles, Anna Prendergast, Sarah Walsh, and Sister Mary Celestine Walsh, DC; three brothers, David, Anthony, and William; and two aunts in community, Sister M. Eulalia Walsh, IHM and Sister M. Matthias Walsh, IHM.

She is survived by a sister, Sister Mary Romana Walsh, DC, of Villa St. Michael in Baltimore, MD.

The funeral will be Thursday, October 11, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent in Scranton. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Wednesday at the Marian Convent.
