Sister M. St. Teresa Healy, IHM

November 15, 1900 – December 9, 1994

Sister M. St. Teresa Healy, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, December 9, 1994 at the Marian Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

She was born on November 15, 1900 in Coeur d’Alene, ID, and was given the name Margaret. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Patrick and Ella Penrose Kildea Healy. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 11, 1922, made first profession of her vows on December 28, 1924 and final profession of her vows on December 8, 1930.

Sister St. Teresa served as a music teacher at the following schools: Marywood College in Scranton, PA; Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA; St. Patrick High School in Scranton, PA; St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD; and St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Binghamton, NY; as well as at schools located in Coeur d’Alene, ID, Portland, OR, and Brooklyn, NY. She served as an catechetical instructor at Kingston Catechetical Center in Kingston, PA.

Sister St. Teresa served as a principal at St. Paul High School in Scranton, PA.

Sister also served for nine years as the archivist for the IHM Congregation in Scranton.

From 1988 until the time of her death, Sister St. Teresa served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton.

Having earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Marywood College in 1923, she completed a Master of Arts degree in music education at Columbia University in 1945.

She is preceded in death by four brothers, Alphonsus Joseph, Ignatius Bernard, Edmund Gerald and Paul Charles, and a sister, Eleanor “Ellen” Teresa Healy.

She is survived by a brother, William Kildea Healy of Fresno, CA, and nieces and nephews, including Maryellen Weber of McLean, VA.

The funeral will be Monday, December 12 with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent at 10:00 a.m., followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Sunday after 2:00 p.m.
