Sister M. Jerome Holland, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Friday, February 20, 1981, at Mercy Hospital in Scranton, PA.

She was born on July 2, 1908 in New York City, NY, and given the name Julia. She was the daughter of the late Timothy and Ellen Hayes Holland. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1930, received the religious habit April 14, 1931, and made profession of vows April 24, 1933.

Sister Jerome served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY; St. Ephrem Elementary School in Brooklyn, NY; St. Mary Elementary School in Manhasset, NY; St. Alphonsus Elementary School in New York, NY; Our Lady of Good Counsel Elementary School in Inwood, RI; and Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Elementary School in Forest Hills, NY.

From 1971 until the time of her death, Sister Jerome served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Monsignor John J., William, Frank Timothy, and Reverend Jerome P.; and a sister, Marguerite Ryan.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Connelly of South Euclid, OH; a brother-in-law, Alfred A. Ryan of New York; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Monday, February 23, with Mass of Christian Burial at 8:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent in Scranton. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA Friends may call on Sunday afternoon and evening at the Marian Convent.
