Sister M. St. Dominic Foley, IHM

Sister M. St. Dominic Foley, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Monday, May 26, 1980, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.
She was born on November 23, 1906 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Mary Alice. She was the daughter of the late John and Anna Timlin Foley. She entered the IHM Congregation on August 15, 1924, received the religious habit on December 29, 1924, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1926.
Sister St. Dominic served as a teacher at the following local schools: St. Thomas Aquinas Elementary School in Archbald, PA; Epiphany Elementary School in Sayre, PA; and Sacred Heart of Mary Elementary School in Jermyn, PA. She also served as a teacher at schools located in Pennsylvania, New York and Rhode Island.
Sister also served as the switch-board operator at Marywood College in Scranton, PA, and prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, John Joseph, George M. and Patrick James, and two infant sisters.
She is survived by a brother, Thomas Francis Foley of Scranton, PA; and several nieces and nephews, including Reverend John P. Foley, assistant pastor of St. Aloysius Parish in Wilkes-Barre, PA, and Attorney Timothy E. Foley of Dunmore, PA.
The funeral will be Thursday, May 29, with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent in Scranton, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent Wednesday afternoon or evening.
Archival Remembrance:
In her 45 years of teaching at the intermediate and junior high levels, Sister St. Dominic Foley was assigned to IHM schools located in Rhode Island, New York and in Pennsylvania. In 1971, Sister came to Marywood College and served part-time as a switchboard operator, until poor health brought her to the Marian Convent.
