Sixtus Murray, IHM

Sister M. Sixtus Murray, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, November 12, 1931, at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, PA.

She was born on October 7, 1870 in Freeland, PA, and given the name Sarah. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Bridget Breslin Murray. She entered the IHM Congregation on November 1, 1891, received the religious habit on May 25, 1892, and made profession of her vows on May 24, 1894.

Sister Sixtus served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Rosalia School in Pittsburgh, PA; St. Cecilia School in Exeter, PA; All Saints School in Masontown, PA; IHM Academy in Coeur d’ Alene, ID; and St. Leo School in Ashley, PA.

Sister also served in child care for resident children at St. Patrick’s Orphanage in Scranton, PA.

She is survived by two brothers, Patrick of Chinchilla, PA, and John of California.

The funeral will be Saturday, November 14, at St. Leo’s Church in Ashley, PA. Interment will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Friday at St. Joseph’s Convent in Ashley.
