Sister M. Sixtus Murray, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, November 12, 1931 at Mercy Hospital in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
Born on October 7, 1870 in Yorktown, Pennsylvania, and given the name Sarah, she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Bridget Breslin Murray. She entered the IHM Congregation on November 1, 1891, received the religious habit on May 27, 1892, and made profession of her vows on May 24, 1894.
Sister Sixtus served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Rosalia School in Pittsburgh, PA; St. Cecilia School in Exeter, PA; All Saints School in Masontown, PA; and the IHM Academy in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. She also served in child care for resident children at St. Patrick’s Orphanage in Scranton, PA.
At the time of her death, Sister Sixtus was a teacher at St. Leo School in Ashley, PA.
She is survived by two brothers, Patrick of Clark’s Summit, PA, and John of California.
The funeral was held on Satrurday, November 14 at St. Leo’s Church in Ashley, followed by interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, Pennsylvania. Friends may call on Friday at St. Joseph’s Convent in Ashley.
