Sister M. Salome Klarsch, IHM

Sister M. Salome Klarsch, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Wednesday, October 1, 1975, at Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.
She was born on December 29, 1908 in Danville, PA, and given the name Catherine. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Elizabeth Koch Klarsch. She entered the IHM Congregation February 2, 1929, received the religious habit on August 2, 1929, and made profession of her vows on July 31, 1931.
Sister Salome served as a music and elementary grades teacher at the following schools: St. Bernard Parochial School in Hastings, PA, from 1931 to 1932; Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Elementary School in Forest Hills, NY, from 1932 to 1933; St. Thomas Regional School in Providence, RI, from 1933 to 1934; St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD, from 1934 to 1935; St. Agnes Elementary School in Baltimore, MD, from 1935 to 1939; St. Ann Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1964 to 1970; St. Thomas School in Coeur d’Alene, ID, from 1970 to 1971; and Epiphany Elementary School in Sayre, from 1971 to 1975.
Sister served as principal and superior at the following schools: St. Rita Elementary School in Dundalk, MD, from 1939 to 1956; St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD, from 1956 to 1962; St. Peter of Alcantara Elementary School in Port Washington, NY, from 1962 to 1963.
Sister also served on the support staff of the IHM Novitiate in Scranton, PA, from 1963 to 1964.
At the time of her death, Sister Salome was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was preceded in death a brother, Anthony.
She is survived by two brothers, Joseph and James, both of of Danville, PA; a sister, Helen Catherine Conkievich of Portland, OR; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday, October 3 at 9:00 a.m. at Epiphany Church in Sayre, PA. Friends may call on Friday after 2:00 p.m. at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, October 4 at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
