Sister M. Rose Francis Brown, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, January 3, 1976, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on January 31, 1904, in Rochester, PA, and given the name Madeline. She was the daughter of the late Joseph Michael and Iva Faye Kidd Brown. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 17, 1926, received the religious habit on December 28, 1926, and made profession of her vows on January 2, 1929.

Sister Rose Francis served as an intermediate teacher in the following IHM schools: St. Raymond School in Lynbrook, NY, and St. Bernardine Elementary School in Baltimore, MD. She taught music at the following schools: St. Monica Elementary School in Raleigh, NC; St. Dominic School in Oyster Bay, NY; St. John High School in Pittston, PA; Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Scranton, PA; Cathedral Elementary School in Scranton, PA; and at Marywood College for summer sessions. Sister also taught music and religion at Altoona Catholic High School in Altoona, PA, and at St. Ignatius Catechetical Center in Kingston, PA.

Sister Rose Francis served as principal at Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Scranton, PA.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Michael, Jr., Edward Lewis, and William Harold. There are no immediate survivors.

She is survived by the members of the IHM Congregation.

The funeral will be on Monday, January 5 at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, followed by interment in St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Sunday after 2:00 p.m.
