Sister M. Dorotheus Donnelly, IHM

Sister M. Dorotheus Donnelly, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Saturday, February 14, 1976 at St. Patrick’s Convent in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
She was born on April 25, 1913 in Dunmore, Pennsylvania, and given the name Dorothy. She was the daughter of the late Dr. Ignatius Joseph and Sarah Lappin Donnelly. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 2, 1935, received the religious habit on April 30, 1936, and made profession of her vows on May 2, 1938.
Sister Dorotheus served as a teacher in the following schools: St. Raymond Elementary School in Lynbrook, NY, from 1938 to 1947; St. Agnes Elementary School in Baltimore, MD, from 1948 to 1951; St. Mary of the Assumption Elementary School in Upper Marlboro, MD, from 1948 to 1951; St. Paul Elementary School in Scranton, PA, from 1951 to 1957; St. Leo Elementary School in Ashley, PA, from 1957 to 1958; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA, from 1958 to 1959; St. Bernard Elementary School in Hastings, PA, from 1959 to 1961; St. Mary of the Mount Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1961 to 1963; All Saints Elementary School in Masontown, PA, from 1963 to 1964; St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale, PA, from 1964 to 1965; St. Mary, Help of Christians Elementary School in Pittston, from 1965 to 1968; Holy Angels Elementary School in Pittsburgh, PA, from 1968 to 1969; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Silver Spring, MD, from 1969 to 1970; and St. Mary Elementary School in Goldsboro, NC, from 1971 to 1975.
From 1975 to the time of her death, Sister Dorotheus served as a teacher St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph and Richard.
She is survived by two sisters, Isobel Schumacher of Burlington, VT, and Claire A. Wormuth of Scranton, PA, two brothers, John Lappin Donnelly of West Virginia, and Paul Campbell Donnelly of East Berlin, PA, nieces and nephews.
Interment is at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
