Sister M. Rosanne McFarland, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Thursday, July 22, 1971, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.
She was born on April 25, 1893 in Avoca, PA, and given the name Anna. She was the daughter of the late James and Elizabeth Monaghan McFarland. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 24, 1924, received the religious habit on December 29, 1924, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1926.
Sister Rosanne served as a teacher of commercial subjects at St. Patrick High School in Scranton, PA.
Sister served as principal at Immaculate Conception High School in Lock Haven, PA, from 1956 to 1962; and St. Alphonsus High School in New York, NY.
At Marywood College in Scranton, PA, Sister Rosanne served as a teacher of commercial subjects, dean of students from 1947 to 1949, and business manager from 1949 to 1956.
From 1962 until the time of her death, Sister Rosanne served as a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.
She is preceded in death by a brother, William James.
She is survived by two brothers, Leo A. of Avoca, PA, and Joseph of Wilkes-Barre, PA; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Monday, July 26, at 9:30 a.m. at the Marian Convent, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Saturday evening, and Sunday afternoon and evening.
Note: Before entering the community, she was a private secretary for Congressman Nicholas Longworth in Washington, DC.
