Sister M. Rosalie McDermott, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on July 4, 1942, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.

She was born on November 8, 1882 in Pittston, PA, and given the name Agnes. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Ellen Salmon McDermott. She entered the IHM Congregation on July 1, 1903, received the religious habit on August 2, 1904, and made profession of her vows on July 26, 1906.

Sister Rosalie served as a teacher the IHM Academy in Coeur d’Alene, ID.

Sister served as principal and superior at the following schools: St. Leo High School in Ashley, PA; St. Rose High School in Carbondale, PA; St. John the Evangelist High School in Scranton, PA; and St. Rosalia High School in Pittsburgh, PA. She also served as supervisor of schools for the IHM Congregation.

At Marywood College in Scranton, PA, Sister Rosalie served as assistant dean and head of the department of social sciences. She served as moderator of the senior class, International Relations Club and Sienna Social Forum.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary McDermott, and two brothers, John F. and Martin.

She is survived by three sisters, Ann McQueen of Avoca, PA, and Belinda and Catherine McDermott, both of Pittston, PA; a brother, Terrance of Binghamton, NY; and a nephew, Francis (Frank) McQueen.

The funeral will be Tuesday, July 7, at 9:30 a.m. with a solemn high mass of requiem at the Marywood College Chapel in Scranton. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Moscow, PA.
