Sister M. Romaine O’Neill, IHM

March 3, 1874 – November 26, 1940

Sister M. Romaine O’Neill, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Tuesday, November 26, 1940 in Raleigh, NC.

She was born on March 3, 1874 in Pleasant Mount, PA, and given the name Margaret. She was the daughter of the late Paul and Margaret Fives O’Neill. She entered the IHM Congregation on April 3, 1899, received the religious habit on April 16, 1900, and made profession of her vows on April 1, 1902.

Sister Romaine served as a teacher at the IHM Academy in Coeur d’Alene, ID, and St. Patrick Elementary School in Olyphant, PA.

Sister served as principal and superior at the following schools: St. Joseph Elementary School in Danville, PA; St. Patrick Elementary School in White Haven, PA; and St. Monica Elementary School in Raleigh, NC.

She was preceded in death by a brother, James P., and four sisters, Ella and Elizabeth O’Neill, Julia A. Connor and Mary E. Haggerty.

She is survived by three brothers, John T. of Forest City, PA, Charles W. of Pleasant Mount, PA, and Paul E. of New York; and several nieces and nephews, including Reverend Raymond O’Neill of Wilkes-Barre, PA.

The funeral will be Saturday, November 30, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church in Moscow, PA. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow. Friends may call on Friday at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.
