Sister M. Redempta Foye, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Sunday, August 26, 1906, at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Scranton, PA.
She was born on January 4, 1881 in Scranton, PA, and given the name Louisa. She was the daughter of Thomas H. Foye, and the late Margaret Ann Fagan Foye. She entered the IHM Congregation on September 8, 1900, received the religious habit on December 31, 1900, and made profession of her vows on December 27, 1902.
Sister Redempta served as a music teacher at St. John the Evangelist School and St. Patrick School, both in Scranton, PA.
She is preceded in death by a brother, Thomas, Jr.
In addition to her father, she is also survived by a sister, Dora Brown of Scranton, PA.
The funeral will be Tuesday, August 28 at 9:00 am at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary, followed by interment at the Marywood College Cemetery, on the grounds of Marywood College in Scranton.
Archival Remembrance:
During Sister Redempta Foye’s short but well spent career, she endeared herself to all, but especially to the community of which she was a valued member. She was educated in St. Paul’s Parochial School, and soon after graduation entered the Sisters of IHM novitiate at Carbondale. In September 1902, she was transferred to Mount St. Mary’s Seminary, where in December of the same year she made profession of her vows.
