Sister M. Rebecca Doyle, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, died on Wednesday, December 26, 1984, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on July 19, 1903, in Scranton, PA, and given the name Florena. She was the daughter of the late Peter and Bridget Neary Doyle. She entered the IHM Congregation from Holy Rosary Parish on February 2, 1921, received the religious habit on August 2, 1921, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1923.

Sister Rebecca served as a religion teacher at the following schools: South Catholic High School in Scranton, PA; Cathedral Elementary School in Scranton, PA; and St. Dominic Elementary School in Oyster Bay, NY; St. Mary Elementary School in Avoca, PA; and St. Cecilia Elementary School in Exeter, PA. She also taught at schools located in Pittston, PA, and New York City, NY.

Sister served as principal at St. Rose High School in Carbondale, PA; St. Joseph High School in Renovo, PA; IHM Academy in Coeur d’Alele, Idaho; as well as at high schools located in Masontown and Pittsburgh, PA.

Sister Rebecca also served as a secretary at Nativity of Our Lord Elementary School in Scranton, PA; and on the support staff at the IHM Generalate in Scranton, PA.

From 1983 until the time of her death, Sister Rebecca was a prayer minister at the Marian Convent.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Anthony, Frank, James and Peter, Jr.

She is survived by a sister, Florence Ferguson of Scranton, PA; nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Friday, December 28, at 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at the Marian Convent in Scranton. Interment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call at the Marian Convent on Thursday afternoon or evening.
