Sister M. Presentation Wilkinson, IHM

Sister M. Presentation Wilkinson, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Monday, May 11, 1959, at the Marian Convent in Scranton, PA.

She was born on June 19, 1872, in Mauch Chunk, PA, and given the name Anna Teresa. She was the daughter of the late John Dominic and Bridget McFadden Wilkinson. She entered the IHM Congregation on January 6, 1895, received the religious habit on July 2, 1895, and made profession of her vows on July 25, 1897.

Sister Presentation served as a teacher at the following schools: St. Patrick Elementary School in Scranton, PA; St. John the Evangelist Elementary School in Pittston, PA; St. Charles Borromeo Elementary School in Sugar Notch, PA; St. Cecilia Elementary School in Exeter, PA; St. Rita Elementary School in Dundalk, MD; Marywood Seminary in Scranton, PA; and St. Rose Elementary School in Carbondale, PA.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Hugh, Charles Joseph and John Dominic.

She is survived by a sister, Martha Milan of Catasauqua, PA, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be on Wednesday, May 13, at 9:30 a.m. with mass at the Marian Convent, with interment to follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call after 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Archival remembrance of Sister M. Presentation Wilkinson:

Sister Presentation was assigned to St. Patrick’s School, West Scranton, in 1895, where she labored zealously until 1911. She returned in 1940 and spent six more years there. Many of her former pupils at St. Patrick’s came to the Marian Convent for her Requiem Mass and to express their appreciation of, and gratitude to, their devoted teacher. The pupils under her care remember her as a kind, helpful teacher solicitous for their welfare. In the Community, she was a generous, devoted Sister. Years of suffering were her immediate preparation for God’s summons to eternity.
