Sister M. Philothea Geary, IHM, of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary died on Friday, February 27, 1953, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Carbondale, PA.
She was born on June 14, 1895 in Carbondale, PA, and was given the name Gertrude Magdellan. She was the daugher of the late Lawrence and Kathryn Foley Geary. She entered the IHM Congregation on February 27, 1921, received the religious habit on August 2, 1921, and made profession of her vows on August 15, 1923.
Sister Philothea served as a teacher at the following schools: St. John the Evangelist School in Scranton, PA; St. Ann School in Scranton, PA; St. Paul School in Scranton, PA; and St. Cecelia School in Exeter, PA.
She is survived by three sisters, Mary Agnes Collins of Saratoga Springs, NY, Mrs. Walter Cahill and Helen Reddy, both of Albany, NY.
The funeral will be Monday, March 2 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine’s Church in Moscow, PA, followed by interment at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow, PA. Friends may call on Sunday after 2:00 p.m. at St. Agnes Place in Elmhurst, PA.
